The VirtualBeers story
I live far from my best friends.
And what hurts most isn't the distance. It's watching our friendships turn into nostalgia. We talk once or twice a year. We love each other. But the conversation is always the same: RECAP. Work, family, the latest trip.
And then... awkward silence. Because we don't share the day-to-day. We live our friendship in memory, not in the present.
One day a simple idea hit me:
What if instead of "making a call", we just... meet up?
Like when we lived close. "Hey, let's grab a drink Tuesday at 9 PM."
Each of us in our city. Each of us at a bar. But together.
I tried it with Diego. Then with Chiara. Then with Marta.
And they all said the same thing: "What a great idea, let's do it."
They didn't just like the idea. They got excited about it. The anticipation of "I have plans with a friend" was already a joy. And after the meet-up, the feeling of "we hung out together."
VirtualBeers isn't technology. It's a ritual.
You leave home. You get ready. You go somewhere. You meet at a time. And you spend time with your friend. Not doing RECAP. Just... being there.
And if you repeat it, something magical happens: you get the day-to-day back. The silly stuff. The conversations that flow. Friendship in the present, not just in memory.
Got a friend who lives far away?
Send them a message. "Hey, let's grab a drink on [day] at [time]. You in your city, me in mine. You in?"
You'll see how they say yes.
